I'M NEW TO MARTIAL ARTS, CAN I DO THIS?





Unless you have a medical reason not to the simple answer is yes. There are no acrobatic movements and we introduce basic fitness in to most classes. Every thing we teach is adaptable for all.



I'M A BIT UNFIT, WILL THIS BE TOO HARD?





We don't expect all students to be athletes, let alone athletic. The techniques taught are relatively simplistic. Even the more advanced ones will be achievable after training with us for a while.



AM I TOO OLD?





As long as you are healthy there is no reason why age should be a limiting factor in learning to defend yourself.

Understandably with age some things may be less practical, but we cater for the individual and will tailor all sessions to your self.



do i need a licence?





Here at Ripon Martial Arts we insist on students getting licenced with student insurance. Don't worry though, we arrange it all and its exceptionally reasonable in price. This is purely for your own safety and that of others training with you.



do i have to be graded?





Not at all. While we do run a graded class off a syllabus and use the belt progression scheme it is purely your choice as to should you grade or not.

We would naturally inform you of any grading's taking place and as to whether you would be at the required standard to complete them.

You may decide against them but later change your mind. This is perfectly acceptable with us.



What do i need to wear?





Whatever feels comfortable to train in. As long as movement isn't restricted its a personal choice.

We would advise in investing in a gi(uniform) though as they are much harder wearing and will stand up to the rigours of being pulled around. This doesn't have to be an expensive investment and again this could be organised for you.
